AFJ APRIL TOP 10 HOT LIST!

By Jarrett Kruse

Man that month went fast! Now we usher in both the Summer movie season and more importantly, CON SEASON! That means lots of Exclusives coming to AFJ as we gear up for the time of year when Junkies will do anything and everything to get their coveted figures. In the meantime, April saw the epic 40th Anniversary of STAR WARS and CELEBRATION ORLANDO did not disappoint sending Junkies into an online frenzy to grab Exclusives only to miss out on retail prices by minutes and face the dreaded scalper costs. So to say that George Lucas’ little property that could monopolizes AFJ’s APRIL TOP 10 HOT LIST is an understatement.

***PRICES ARE AN AGGREGATE ESTIMATE OF SOLD EBAY AUCTIONS & PRICE TRENDING ON MAJOR ONLINE RETAILERS. THEY ARE MERELY ESTIMATES OR THE CURRENT GOING RATE AND ARE NOT RETAIL!! THE HIGHEST DOLLAR AMOUNT DOES NOT EQUAL ITS POSITION ON THE LIST.***

10. HASBRO MARVEL LEGENDS CYCLOPS ($45)

The Jim Lee MARVEL LEGENDS CYCLOPS has been a tough figure to find on the pegs. Blane that on the A-List art of Lee who is an art icon to even the most casual collector. HASBRO really nailed the 90’s look for Cyke with this figure and the paint apps really pop with a simultaneous retro vibe. A must have!

9. DC COLLECTIBLES BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES BATMAN EXPRESSIONS PACK ($55)

BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES, although 25 years old, continues to find new audiences in this age of on demand streaming. Junkies that did not grow up on the series can easily binge watch the entire series and introduce their kids to one of the most seminal cartoons of modern times. DC COLLECTIBLES has astutely noticed that BTAS fans demand more and more product from the iconic show so I love that they are trying new things like the “Expressions Pack” with bonus cowls and capes for extra play-ability. Great cape, like Frank Costanza’s lawyer’s.

8. HASBRO MARVEL LEGENDS MOON KNIGHT ($60)

It seems that the new SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING wave of MARVEL LEGENDS has started turning up earlier than expected. Junkies have quickly responded by buying up any available MOON KNIGHT’s that have become available online or in-store. I missed getting one by a minute only to see the figure rise $30 in 5 minutes. Don’t hate the players, hate the game! Still, MOON KNIGHT has carved out a very nice reading audience over the past decade and buzz continues that it could become part of the NETFLIX MCU. For now, this dope new figure will do.

7. HASBRO MARVEL LEGENDS SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING SPIDER-MAN (HOMEMADE SUIT) ($55)

I am actually pretty stoked that their has been such a positive reaction to Peter Parker’s “Homemade Suit” figure. I honestly thought that this one might be a possible peg-warmer but instead it has become a quick fan-favorite. Usually the main character in a wave is easiest to find but the Homemade Spidey suit from the upcoming SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING seems to have resonated with Junkies as an original new look for the Webhead.

6. HASBRO STAR WARS BLACK SERIES 40TH ANNIVERSARY DISPLAY DIORAMA & DARTH VADER LEGACY PACK ($40)

Now this was a clever idea from the Rhode Island toy giant. The old-school gimmick that captured the world 40 years ago is back! When KENNER realized they could not meet the insane figure demand back in ’77, this early bird style diorama secured figures for collectors. Now, HASBRO has smartly recreated what started the craze with this diorama Legacy Pack with a Black Series Darth Vader. Epic!

5. HASBRO STAR WARS BLACK SERIES HAN SOLO 40TH ANNIVERSARY ($35)

The baddest space pirate in the Galaxy is back with a 40th Anniversary vintage card back and is only packed one per case making Junkies scramble in store and online. Fantastic craftsmanship that harkens back to the days when figure collecting was not quite as serious as it is today. With the solo Solo movie on its way, I think anything  Han is going to get a bump in price.

4. FUNKO POP! VINYLS STAR WARS CELEBRATION GALACTIC EXCLUSIVE QUI-GON JINN SPIRIT ($75)

Say what you will about EPISODE 1, fans really seem to love Liam Neeson’s Qui-Gon Jinn. STAR WARS CELEBRATION saw a slew of “Galactic Exclusives” from online retailers that sold out faster than the Falcon in light speed. Naturally they were all flipped on the secondary market within minutes of selling out. You snooze you lose in the Junkieverse. Hopefully I can find this one at a more reasonable cost but I am not confident that the Force is with me.

3. HASBRO STAR WARS BLACK SERIES R2-D2 40TH ANNIVERSARY ($40)

Everyones favorite droid is back for the big anniversary and although like Han, he is packed just one per case, Junkies seem to be deadest on finding the scene-stealer first. Lots of trading and selling action has been going on with this piece which is why it is so high on the list.

2. MATTEL DC MULTIVERSE KING SHARK BAF ($135)

Nothing like a dope new BAF to drive Junkies crazy! This KING SHARK has caught fire in the past month mainly because it’s been very tough to find the entire wave with BAF parts onlineat once. I have seen a few Junkies nab the entire wave at large retail chains but maybe three members, tops. This is really one of the nicest BAF’s that MATTEL has done in years from a stellar wave where there is not a dud in the bunch.

1. HASBRO STAR WARS BLACK SERIES CELEBRATION EXCLUSIVE LUKE SKYWALKER: X-WING PILOT ($100)

Chances are, you’ve heard of the Son of Vader and he is planning a big 2017. Although this almost exact figure was released four years ago when the BLACK SERIES made its debut, nothing speaks to a Junkie like an Exclusive. Tack on the words STAR WARS CELEBRATION to it and you can guarantee prices will skyrocket. HASBROtoyshop.com did briefly offer the figure online after the Florida eventbut it sold out faster than the Falcon in light speed.
