AFJ TOP 10 NOVEMBER HOT LIST!
By Jarrett Kruse
You may have heard that the first original STAR WARS movie w/out a Roman numeral is coming to theaters in just two weeks. So leading up to the epic "STAR WARS Story" has meant that Junkies everywhere have been snatching up BLACK SERIES toys with a fervor only brought on by a high midichlorian count. The Force is indeed with AFJ as the NOVEMBER TOP 10 HOT LIST is littered with characters from a galaxy far, far away. As for the rest of the list, it is populated by a few of my other favorite things, Batman, Harley Quinn & Chevy Chase!
(Prices listed are predicated upon SOLD eBay listings, Amazon and group sales. You my find items cheaper or more expensive.)
10. NECA SANTA CLARK "CHRISTMAS VACATION" ($40)
Just in time for the holidays, and the first real action figure (non-POP, non-vinyl piece, etc.) with Chevy's likeness that I have been waiting for since the late 80's. The hyper-detailed NECA figure has skyrocketed to close to $45 on Amazon w/ good reason. The real cloth costume, articulation and heavily accessorize figure is the most perfect Christmas gift since "Elf on the Shelf." Check eBay though for a more modestly priced Santa Clark for about $30+ and change after shipping. Two words I have to add about this awesome holiday figure--FLETCH Custom!
9. DC COLLECTIBLES BATMOBILE, BATMAN & ROBIN AND BAT SIGNAL ($130)
You may have bought the Batmobile alone earlier this year but you might halve wanted to wait. The reason? This fantastic holiday set from DC COLLECTIBLES is all your Bat-holiday wishes come true; especially if you are an animated bat-fan. The massive new Deluxe Batmobile alone is a whopping 24" long w/ light-up headlights, brakes & engine. The Bat Signal alone is 6.5", that's bigger than most MARVEL LEGENDS figures!
8. WALGREENS EXCLUSIVE HASBRO STAR WARS BLACK SERIES C-3PO (Silver Leg, $30)
Forget the reasons why 3PO has a red arm in TFA, Junkies seem more hard pressed to locate the Walgreens Exclusive version of everyone's favorite protocol droid w/ a silver right leg. The classic character has Junkie completists scrambling to grab both the new red armed C-3PO and his Exclusive silver legged counterpart before the tree is put up. Hey, they'd both make great ornaments.
7. MAFEX ARMORED BATMAN ($50)
Despite the relatively tepid box office performance and lack of commensurate fan appeal of BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE, the higher end action figures from the film still seem to be a Junkies favorite. MAFEX (Medicom Toys) in particular has come on strong the past six months w/ some seriously nice pieces at an affordable price point. The ARMORED BATMAN from MAFEX has vaulted into the AFJ Top 10 Hot List after a rash of Junkies proudly posted their "bargain" purchase and seemingly favorite iteration of the armored Dark Knight. Can't wait to see what MAFEX does next!
6. NECA TRU EXCLUSIVE HARLEY QUINN ($35)
If I have learned anything about DC fans, it's that no one can get enough Harley Quinn. No matter the iteration; movie, comic or video game, the doctor turned psycho goddess sells big with Junkies. Leave it to NECA to drop a pre-Thanksgiving bomb no one saw coming with a new 7-inch figure exclusive to TOYS R US. Junkies scrambled for a SKU number to relay to their local store and see if they could get lucky before the turkey was sliced. A definite hit item for the holidays.
5. WALMART EXCLUSIVE STAR WARS BLACK SERIES SCARIF STORMTROOPER ($35)
As if it was not hard enough to find the regular Scarif Stormtrooper from the upcoming ROGUE ONE film from HASBRO's storied BLACK SERIES, now Junkies have to contend with landing the Walmart Exclusive too! It is just a few small details that differentiate the two Troopers but that's what makes Junkies go nuts. Many Junkies have reported that these have been pretty well available (for Walmart) thus far.
4. NECA TRU EXCLUSIVE BATMAN BEGINS ($40)
As if a new pre-holiday Pearl Harbor-like strike from NECA with a new Harley (see above) was not enough, the New Jersey based toy giant knocked Junkies sideways when a new, scaled down Bale BATMAN BEGINS in glorious 7-inch form also hit exclusively to TRU. Figurespec.com saw a surge in demand doubling the retail price of the $19.99 figure to a healthy $40 that many were happy to fork over as to have the piece before the "official" holiday shopping season began. The circle is now complete with a NECA Adam West, Michael Keaton & Christian Bale Batman. Can 7-inch Affleck, Clooney & Kilmer be far off??
3. HASBRO STAR WARS BLACK SERIES DIRECTOR KRENNIC ($26)
Actor Ben Mendohlson was definitely a scary dude as "Daggett" in 2012's THE DARK KNIGHT RISES, before meeting his doom at the hands of Tom Hardy's Bane. But I remember thinking, "this guy makes for a great bad guy." I had no idea that he would be cast as the evil Director Krennic in the first standalone STAR WARS movie ever. It's a tall order and I hear he goes toe to toe with Vader himself so his new BLACK SERIES figure is hotter than a lightsaber. The price may only be a few dollars above retail but it seems that the Director has been quite sparse in most Junkies backyards.
2. HASBRO STAR WARS BLACK SERIES SCARIF STORMTROOPER ($37)
As mentioned earlier, the "regular" Scarif Stormtrooper with the extra drops of colors seems to be more appealing to Junkies rather than the more basic looking WALMART Exclusjve. Either way, the Scarif Troopers are a far cry from TFA's slightly modified white & black look. This gives us a whole new, jungle warfare style Trooper of the Republic that's ready to storm the beach.
1. HASBRO STAR WARS BLACK SERIES DARTH REVAN ($80)
The fan-favorite Sith Lord finally makes his debut in BLACK SERIES form! Many Junkies are hailing the REVAN wave as the best BLACK SERIES Wave to date as it also features: E4 OBI-WAN, E5 AT-AT DRIVER, E4 PRINCESS LEIA, SABINE WREN & E5 SNOWTROOPER. Tack REVAN onto that and it's a sellers paradise with each piece in the wave probably going for more separately than together. Still, give any character TWO Lightsabers and you've got a big winner.
