AFJ’S DOCTOR STRANGE – IMAX SNEAK PEEK IMPRESSION

On Monday the 10th, Marvel Studios unveiled 18 minutes of footage of their upcoming Doctor Strange. To greet us on screen, before the show began, was none other than Doctor Stephen Strange himself, Benedict Cumberbatch. With a slight wave of us hands, Cumberbatch revealed that Marvel Studios has over an hour’s worth of footage in the full IMAX ratio for the film. The wave of his hands opened the screen even wider. A slight round of applause and we were under way.

We get a quick origin of the arrogant doctor and his tragic accident that robs him of his gift. This was to be expected. However, what wasn’t expected were the sights and sounds for this Marvel picture. In short, my jaw was on the floor. There has never been a Marvel movie like this and, if you had any doubts about the Infinity War, rest assured, Doctor Strange will take us to that level of cosmic magnitude and wonder.

I am not a huge fan of 3D movies, nor do I feel that every movie should be done in IMAX, let alone pay the up charge of seeing a 3D IMAX film. After seeing just 18 minutes of Doctor Strange this way, I got really sad. Why? Because when I watch it on my home theatre after I eventually buy the film, it will never ever match the cinematic experience. Mind you, if the rest of film is as good as those 18 minutes, I recommend, completely, seeing it in 3D IMAX.

Now if only November 4th could get here just a little bit quicker.

Marvel Studios and Disney released a hint of what was shown in the YouTube clip above.
