AFJ'S TOP 10 HOT LIST MARCH 2017!
By Jarrett Kruse
Yes I know I am a few days late gang but things have been a little nuts since getting back to LA. Rest assured we are working nonstop with Range Marketing & Narrasoft to develop the new AFJ website that is top notch. So while March was a booming toy month as we recovered from February's Toy Fair and we are already gearing up for Summer movie season with GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 just a month away. So let's dig in to see what made the March Hot List.
***PRICES ARE AN AGGREGATE ESTIMATE OF SOLD EBAY AUCTIONS & PRICE TRENDING ON MAJOR ONLINE RETAILERS. THEY ARE MERELY ESTIMATES OR THE CURRENT GOING RATE AND ARE NOT RETAIL!! THE HIGHEST DOLLAR AMOUNT DOES NOT EQUAL ITS POSITION ON THE LIST.***
10. WALGREEN'S EXCLUSIVE MARVEL LEGENDS INVISIBLE WOMAN ($75)
Like any Invisible Woman, this one is very hard to find. I've seen a steady flow of listings for this piece on the secondary market; first from Hong Kong, now NYC. She's out there but am not looking forward to all of the future memes of people trying to sell her by taking a picture of the empty package and calling it a variant.
9. NECA BABY GROOT FOAM FIGURE ($50)
NECA has created a Foam Baby Groot that is just too damn cute for words. Baby Groot stands 10-inches tall and NECA created him using the real digital files from the movie production of GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 due out in theaters on May 5th. Baby Groot is composed of foam rubber & latex for hyper-realistic detail too. I must own this!
8. BANDAI LIMITED EDITION WHITE RANGER ($35)
Honestly, my only experience with the POWER RANGERS was in the mid-90's when I had to dress up as the Black Ranger on a sweltering August afternoon as a counselor for my kids at day camp. One thing I do know though, Junkies love the White Ranger so naturally when you tack on the words, "Limited Edition" to the piece, it is going to be a hot item.
7. MEZCO ONE:12 COLLECTIVE BVS SUPERMAN ($85)
MEZCO's ONE:12 COLLECTIVE line can do no wrong right now in the eyes of AFJ members. We finally get our mitts on the BVS Superman and it was totally worth the wait as the ultimate figure from the film. The detail in the sculpt is brilliant and this line of figures can just not take a bad photograph. I can't wait to see what they reveal next!
6. HASBRO STAR WARS BLACK SERIES CHIRRUT IMWE ($32)
Actor Donnie Yen pretty much stole the show in ROGUE ONE back in December and his subtle, nuanced performance can now be enjoyed at home after the DVD release of the blockbuster last week. This BLACK SERIES figure only came in solid cases which means that it has been super hard to locate in stores and online. Not quite sure why HASBRO did this but hey, we all love a good toy hunt!
5. DC COLLECTIBLES DC BOMBSHELLS ($28 apiece)
When I saw these at the DC COLLECTIBLES booth at Toy Fair back in February, I said to myself, "I have to get these." I am a huge fan of World War II art deco and these figures capture that that "We can do it" look of the early-mid 40's American woman with a DC COMICS twist. I seriously love them all and cannot wait for the next wave.
4. DIAMOND SELECT GHOSTBUSTERS GOZER THE DESTRUCTOR ($25)
An absolute steal at $25, this is the Gozer the Destructor you have been waiting on for 33 long years. DST continues to churn out the all-time greatest GHOSTBUSTERS wave of figures complimenting the entire run with the most ambitious and epic diorama we have ever seen in toys. Well done Diamond!
3. MARVEL LEGENDS DAZZLER ($25)
I can already see the customizer Junkies turning this DAZZLER figure into a BOOGIE NIGHTS Rollergirl! A fantastic figure from the new X-MEN wave of the AFJ mainstay MARVEL LEGENDS, the disco singer with powers has finally been realized in one of our favorite lines. And hey, you just cannot beat a beautiful mutant in roller skates.
2. FUNKO POP! VINYLS PUNISHER CHASE ($60)
What is an AFJ Top 10 Hot List without a POP! Vinyl from FUNKO? This NETFLIX Punisher Chase POP! from Season 2 of DAREDEVIL, has become white hot since its release with FUNKO-fanatics desperately trying to score him at retail. The Chase POP! comes with The Punisher holding Daredevil's cowl which makes this little vinyl mercenary pure Hell's Kitchen badassery.
1. MATTEL DC MULTIVERSE BATGIRL ($50)
It is apropos that right when I made my list, it was announced by Warner Bros. that Joss Whedon, director of the first two AVENGERS films, would be jumping ship and heading for DC FILMS to helm a solo Batgirl flick! This is honestly my favorite Batgirl suit of all time outside of Yvonne Craig's on the 1966 live action BATMAN series. I see this figure only going up in price as more details about the film are revealed.
