AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. S3 EP6 “Among Us Hide…” REVIEW!
By Roshawn Rochester
We start the show off with a critically injured Dr. Garner. Apparently the Hydra goons didn’t kill him like they thought they did. May is struggling to keep herself calm and collected. Andrew then recalls what happened and that it was a S.H.I.E.L.D agent that saved him. May finds Hunter in the hallway and is proceeding to tear him a new one when Agent Coulson comes in and pulls Hunter from the case. May announces her intentions to take the case, revealing she’s back to being Agent May.
[Grant] Ward is feeling the pressure as he was just shot by Hunter. And with Andrew not being killed and Werner being a liability, he sicks his henchmen on finding the son of the late Baron Wolfgang von Strucker. Daisy shares a theory with Coulson. She thinks Lash is in the ATCU and acting as a man on the inside. This is extremely troubling to Phil, who wants to investigate the theory but not let the information get into Rosalyn’s hands.
Next cut is the newly reassigned Agent Mae going after Bobbi over what Hunter did. Bobbi feels bad that Hunter’s actions cause Andrew to get hurt but she doesn’t feel it’s her fault. Mae immediately starts to fight her. Once Bobbi gets the upper hand, Mae reveals that it was all a test to recruit her on her mission to find Ward. Bobbi and Mae are now heading out on mission when Hunter rolls up. They have a little lovers quarrel over how she’s going back in the field. He doesn’t approve but it’s not up to him.
Mae puts it together that Andrew’s student is actually Werner von Strucker and that he is hiding out in the Cayman Islands. Cut to Werner, who is now talking with an old friend of the family that seems to know about Hydra. He’s scared and wants Ward taken care of. The man says he’ll take care of it all. Cut to Rosalyn and Phil in an SUV when she gets a call that has her reschedule their outing. Phil isn’t letting down and he refuses to reschedule. They are heading to her house. Now Fitz and Hunter are talking about saving Will. Hunter is against it because it’s Fitz’ competition. Fitz feels it’s his duty because he saved Simmons on the alien planet. Fitz questions Hunter and asks him to leave when he realizes he isn’t helping. Daisy finds Andrew and wants to talk about Lash. Mack interrupts with his own theory about who Lash could really be. ATCU Agent Luther Banks is his guess. As they are about to leave, Hunter joins the party. He’s desperate to find a spot to fit in right now.
Now we’re at the Cayman Islands with Bobbi and Mae who are undercover and looking to get access to a safety deposit box. They gain access and find the box they are looking for. Box 38 is the winner and they are the losers. They tripped the alarm and now the guards have found them out. It’s really too bad though because they never had a chance. Bobbi and May take out the guards in almost record time. Hunter, Mack and Daisy are in the middle of a stakeout. Mack and Daisy are obviously upset about Andrew almost dying because of how Hunter handled things. While arguing his point of view on the whole situation, Luther comes strolling in. The game is afoot! The team starts following him.
Back to Phil and Rosalyn. Someone has broken into her home. Phil gains a little insight into Rosalyn’s life but nothing too interesting. The gang is still following Luther. He stops off at the side of the road. Hunter takes it upon himself to shoot Luther with a “night-night” gun. Hunter throws him into the van. Daisy and Mack are angry but they see he was just trying to help. Simmons is now giving Dr. Garner the same speech he just gave her. Daisy calls her up and asks Simmons to run a blood test while they go check out another lead.
Phil and Rosalyn are now going back and forth. She seemed to be trying to get to know him but he wasn’t letting up on getting to see the facility. She seemed a little irritated about it and agreed to take him. Now Fitz is on the monitor helping Mae and Bobbi as they go globetrotting to find Werner. All evidence is pointing to Portugal. After Mae and Bobbi get the information, Mae confronts Bobbi about why she resorted to diplomacy over getting into the fight. Ward now on the phone with von Struckers’ family friend. They have an interesting talk about how Ward’s game isn’t the right one to be played yet and how he needs to think more about what kind of game he wants to play. The mysterious older gentleman then gives up the location of Werner.
Daisy, Mack and Hunter are now outside of Endo Tech. They decide to do a little reconnaissance. Meanwhile, Simmons has completed the blood test. It turns out Luther is not Inhuman. Shifting for a second, Fitz and Simmons have a talk about helping Will [the astronaut] get back. Fitz has decided he is not going to keep trying. Meanwhile, the team is looking in on Endo Tech and sees that they are housing Inhumans in monitoring cubes. The real surprise comes when they see Phil and Rosalyn standing there.
The team is trying to spy on them but they can’t get any closer to hear what is going on. Rosalyn then confides in Phil and lets him know that they are looking for a cure and that they are just keeping them in a medically induced coma, of sorts. That’s when it hits Phil. Rosalyn lost someone. She lost her husband to cancer and that drives her to help the Inhumans by putting them to sleep while they find a cure. They’ve both come to an understanding now and they resume to flirt again. Now we cut to Werner being tortured to death. Bobbi and May barge in as one of the henchman deal the final blow. Bobbi and Mae are now taking out the bad guys (two for each of them). When May is done, she unties Werner and tries to get information on Ward’s whereabouts. Bobbi electrocutes the main henchman.
May is still grilling a dying Werner on Ward’s location. Werner then reveals the biggest plot twist in the shows existence. Dr. Andrew Garner is an Inhuman. Not just any Inhuman….he’s Lash!!!! Mae is in shock as Werner seemingly dies in her arms. The last scene is of Daisy and Lincoln talking. They look to be getting closer emotionally. Dr. Garner overhears everything and gives a sinister sneer as he walks away.
Being the 50th episode for the show, they pulled out all the stops. The whole episode was great. It kept you entertained as well as engaged with the progression of this season as a whole. Every plot point had actually been hit and expanded on, one way or another. Now, with Lash..I honestly did NOT see that coming! The whole episode was really good with keeping up on the story and actually progressing and I was really digging it. The revelation that Lash is Dr. Garner though was both totally unexpected and an amazing treat! Not that it was the ONLY good thing about the episode but, and believe me when I say this, it was the highlight.
I’m so thankful that this episode kept up with the first four episodes. I can now give it the rightful 4 out of 5 stars it deserves as it has once again raised the bar for the show.
