I read the rumors this week but I honestly shrugged them all off. Its the Internet right? I said, "I'll believe it when I see it." Well I just saw it. And Batman Vs Superman: Dawn of Justice has just been removed from the forefront of my mind to the Batcave recesses of my brain. Its old news to me no matter how good Zack Snyder's magnum opus is at the end of March because MARVEL, in classic MARVEL fashion, somehow just delivered an absolute knockout punch. Sure, the big bad DC movie that is set to launch close to a dozen DC films for Warner Bros. later this month still features two of the greatest comic book icons of all time but in my mind, their square jawed mouths were just sewn shut with one big "THWIP" from a cartridge of Peter Parker's webbing. Holy Jeez TRUE BELIEVERS!! Make Mine MARVEL because THAT was a trailer and in a "blink and you missed it" instant, Tom Holland is a God damn rock star.

While Batman has always been my go to DC character, Spider-Man has been my obsession since I was in single digits. Making paper web-shooters with a stencil and taping them to my hands was a regular part of my comic book filled childhood. I was positively obsessed with the amazing device that the young Queens, NY native Peter Parker created and although the technology was not available then, pretending to be Spider-Man swinging from tree to tree was a highlight of being a kid. I can honestly say that the final CIVIL WAR trailer had me positively giddy with delight and I could not fire up WordPress quick enough to get my thoughts down.

So many Junkies that I talk to cite that CAPTAIN AMERICA: WINTER SOLDIER from directing team and brothers Anthony and Joe Russo, as their favorite MARVEL film. And when I put everything in order since IRON MAN hit screens in 2008, the 2014 sequel to THE FIRST AVENGER is definitely in the Top 3 MARVEL films in my eyes. Actually, Top 2 for me. I think because the Cap sequel quietly made its way into theaters in early April of 2014, well before the storied summer movie season known for its big budget tentpole films that make or break a studios fiscal year, it did not get as much attention from the media as say AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON which mightily kicked off summer 2015. On repeat viewing, WINTER SOLDIER is the comic book movie equivalent of THE GODFATHER: PART II--a sequel as good as if not better than the original. A rarity in the movie business that almost never happens.

While I do not know how closely the story-line of CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR will be to its comic book counterpart event from 2006-2007 where the plot revolved around the "Superhero Registration Act," I honestly do not care. "It's a great set up for the story. No need for the New Warriors because we already have The Avengers that have wreaked enough havoc!", says longtime comic book and film columnist and AFJ board member, Bob Trate. After seeing the way Kevin Feige has masterfully orchestrated the MARVEL Cinematic Universe with such brilliance, I have complete faith in the maestro. With this massive pre-emptive strike, whatever happens next could make CIVIL WAR the best MARVEL movie yet. The two and a half minute trailer is absolutely jam packed with characters old and new set on two sides ready to square off. EVERYBODY has RSVP'd to this party. Iron Man, Captain America, War Machine, Black Widow, Ant-Man, Black Panther, Vision, Scarlet Witch, Winter Soldier, Falcon, Hawkeye, Agent 13, Crossbones, Maria Hill & the Amazing Spider-Man. And lets not forget that we may even see Thor & the Hulk and who knows who else! Daredevil? The Punisher? Jessica Jones? Luke Cage? Elektra??? I'm seriously gonna plotz! (Click that link!)

Spider-Man just stole the show in a single shot all while holding Captain America's iconic Wakanda-made shield. In the blink of an eye, everything has changed. With great power, comes great responsibility....which is sure to be followed by massive box office receipts. One thing that stuck with me at the HASBRO event at Toy Fair last month was when the MARVEL LEGENDS team did their presentation and spoke about the number of characters in the MARVEL UNIVERSE number in the THOUSANDS. The ones that we have seen on the big screen are just the big shots! We have only scratched the surface of the "House of Ideas" so I feel reborn after watching this trailer on a loop for the past few hours and am absolutely ready to go. With the might of Mjolnir, MARVEL has thrown down Thor's mighty hammer as if saying to DC & Warner Bros., "Is that the best you've got?" If I had the extra cash, I am guessing that Andrew Garfield sure could use a drink right about now....

PS--I knew "UNDEROOS" would become popular again!!
