Spider-Man: Far From Home – Primer

It's hard to believe that we are now on the second Spider-Man movie since Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures have come to an arrangement. We are also about to have our first movie post-Avengers: Endgame too. A movie that is said to be the final installment of the MCU's Phase 4. We've done our best bringing you up to speed on all the characters below. Many are held over from Spider-Man: Homecoming, however, there are new characters as well as new players in Peter Parker's life. Enjoy this quick Primer on who is who in Spider-Man: Far From Home. #AFJ4LIFE

Spider-Man/ Peter Parker
First Comic Book Appearance: Amazing Fantasy #15 (1962)
First MCU Appearance: Captain America: Civil War (2016)
Actor: Tom Holland
The Gist: Peter didn't survive the snap but was brought back by the Avengers in Endgame. What will his world be like having been out of it for 5 years? We may not dwell on that long, but we know losing his mentor, Tony Stark, is going to play a huge part in his character development.

Nick Fury
First Comic Book Appearance: Sgt. Fury and his Howling Commandos #1 (May 1963)
First MCU Appearance: Iron Man (2008)
Actor: Samuel L. Jackson
The Gist: With the MCU lacking heroes, Nick Fury is going to need all the help he can get. Will recruiting Spider-Man be his best option?

Mysterio / Quentin Beck
First Comic Book Appearance: The Amazing Spider-Man #13 (June 1964)
First MCU Appearance: Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019)
Actor: Jake Gyllenhaal
The Gist: The word is that Quentin Beck is from a parallel Earth. Which would tie-in nicely with Sony Pictures current Spider-Verse. Our prediction is that he is an opportunist who took advantage of Thanos' snap and set himself up a hero to better his situation.

Molten Man
First Comic Book Appearance: The Amazing Spider-Man #28 (September 1965)
First MCU Appearance: Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019)
Also Known As: Mark Raxton
Actor: ?
The Gist: In the Marvel Comics
Liz Allan was Molten Man's stepsister. Since Liz Allan, from the comics, is in the MCU and the Vulture's daughter, I don't think there will be a connection. There is also no one credited for playing Molten Man. Our guess is that he is all smoke and mirrors.

Maria Hill
First Comic Book Appearance: The New Avengers #4 (March 2005)
First MCU Appearance: The Avengers (2012)
Actor: Cobie Smulders
The Gist: I don't expect a lot of screen time from Maria Hill. Marvel seems to use her side character/ sidekick than a driving force behind the story.

Michelle Jones
First Comic Book Appearance: Amazing Spider-Man #42 (1966)
First MCU Appearance: Spider-Man: Home Coming (2017)
Also Known As: Mary Jane Watson (MJ to her friends)
Actor: Zendaya
The Gist: It looks as if, from the trailer, that Peter and MJ may actually get a little romance time. Is this a route that Sony and the MCU are ready to go in? We shall see.

May Parker
First Comic Book Appearance: Amazing Fantasy #15 (1962)
First MCU Appearance: Captain America: Civil War (2016)
Actor: Marisa Tomei
The Gist: It will be interesting to see if Aunt May survived Thanos' snap. If she did she will be 5 years older. If not, she will have had to face the fact that Peter died 5 years ago and has now returned.

Happy Hogan
First Comic Book Appearance: Tales of Suspense #45 (1963)
First MCU Appearance: Iron Man (2008)
Actor: Jon Favreau
The Gist: With Tony Stark/ Iron Man gone, Happy Hogan looks to be Peter's direct connection to new tech and upgrades on his Spidey suit. We also get a quick hint that there might be something between Happy and Aunt May.

Ned
First Comic Book Appearance: Amazing Spider-Man #18 (1963)
First MCU Appearance: Spider-Man: Home Coming (2017)
Also Known As: Possibly Ned Leeds (The Hobgoblin)
Actor: Jacob Batlon
The Gist: After the first film, Ned is thrilled to be Peter's guy in the van, on the computer. With the film being set out of NYC, it will be interesting to see how much help Ned can be.

Flash Thompson
First Comic Book Appearance: Amazing Fantasy #15 (1962)
First MCU Appearance: Spider-Man: Home Coming (2017)
Also Known As: Flash Thompson (aka Agent Venom)
Actor: Tony Revolori
The Gist: Back for a second turn as Flash Thompson and still quick with jokes about Peter and his love for Spider-Man.

Betty
First Comic Book Appearance: Amazing Spider-Man #4 (1963)
First MCU Appearance: Spider-Man: Home Coming (2017)
Also Known As: Betty Brant
Actor: Angourie Rice
The Gist: A smaller character in Spider-Man’s long history. I wouldn't expect anything more than a background character out of her this time, however, she did make it into the sequel.

Unknown at Press Time:

Vulture/ Adrian Toomes
First Comic Book Appearance: Amazing Spider-Man #2 (1963)
First MCU Appearance: Spider-Man: Home Coming (2017)
Actor: Michael Keaton
The Gist: Keaton is long rumored to be the sequel, however, how much of his screen time remains to be seen. We are expecting nothing more than a cameo (in the credits).

The Prowler/ Aaron Davis
First Comic Book Appearance: Ultimate Spider-Man Vol.2 #1 (2011)
First MCU Appearance: Spider-Man: Home Coming (2017)
Also Known As: The Prowler
Actor: Donald Glover
The Gist: In the title is "Far from Home" so we are guessing, with the film being set in Europe, we won't be seeing Glover's NY based Prowler in the film.

We will be happy to hear your thoughts
