THE AFJ REVIEW: SDCC EXCLUSIVE MEZCO ONE:12 COLLECTIVE ARMORED BATMAN
By Jarrett Kruse
MEZCO has been having one hell of a year starting the week before Toy Fair with their press only event at their headquarters in Long Island City. I had no idea what to expect but when Drake, Director of MEZCO Special Projects, emailed me that it was a "can't miss event," I became extremely intrigued. As I hightailed into the city, I was positively giddy at what Mez & his crew of dedicated Junkies had in store for us.
To say I was blown away is an understatement. MEZCO threw out the rule-book and drawing a line in the toy sandbox saying, "top this" to every other major toy producer. Not only was the ONE:12 COLLECTIVE going to continue with a whole lot of DC characters as expected, they also now had the MARVEL license. Both comic book heavyweights bought into MEZCO's vision and on this very rare occurrence were announcing they would be producing figures from DC & MARVEL. This is a seismic shift for the Junkies that primarily collect a 6 to 8-inch action figure. It is awe-inspiring, it is totally fresh and is going to make the bigger toy production houses run for cover with Junkies starting to collect their hard earned dollars towards getting one of MEZCO's ONE:12 COLLECTIVE rather than 5 figures off the big box chain's pegs. Yes, these are just that damn beautiful.
At $110 apiece, the two pieces that MEZCO made available at SDCC (the other was CAPTAIN AMERICA), are certainly at a higher price point than what you Junkies are used to. That being said, this is not your average, run of the mill action figure. This is a bona fide work of art taking the term "action figure" to new heights. MEZCO goes the extra mile in every area of this Con Exclusive making it an absolute must have for Junkies. For example, the metal used on the suit is not die-cast metal, its REAL metal. It doesn't just come with a Kryptonite spear, it comes with a REAL metal Kryptonite spear. It has the weight of something that you know took years of dedicated work to produce. Every facet of this figure is for the hardcore Junkie and it is hard to think that anything at all is missing from this set. It is truly an impressive feat of toy engineering and ingenuity using all of the bells & whistles that we have grown to love and now expect from a toy giant like MEZCO.
The good news is that you guys can still order this beauty from MEZCO's website here and trust me, you will not be disappointed. The figure was was released at Con just a few days after the Batman Vs. Superman film became available on Blu-Ray/DVD featuring the "Ultimate" cut that frankly is a far better movie than what the theatrical cut offered. So the Armored Batman is very much back on every Junkie's mind and the quest to obtain the perfect iteration has arrived. Run, don't walk to pick this brilliant figure up but first read what MEZCO has to officially say about their new addition to their game-changing ONE:12 COLLECTIVE line. I am so psyched that I picked this piece up on the first day of Con because buzz started to permeate the masses in San Diego that this Armored Batman was the sleeper Exclusive of the entire Convention. Below is the official company line from MEZCO with all of the details you need to know about this amazing new addition from the ONE:12 COLLECTIVE. You will not be sorry Junkies, I promise!
Batman is ready for the unthinkable. Fearing the actions of a god-like superhero left unchecked, Gotham City's own formidable, forceful vigilante takes on Metropolis' most revered, modern-day savior using an armored Batsuit.
Featuring an incredible, digitally modeled sculpt to craft an exceptional screen-accurate figure, Armored Batman is assembled on a One:12 Collective body featuring over 44 articulated points of movement.
To accurately capture the look of the on-screen armor, Batman's chest plate is cast in real metal. Just as they did in the film, the eyes of Batman's helmet illuminate with a switch discreetly located at the base of his helmet.
The One:12 Collective Dawn of Justice Armored Batman features:
- Hyper-realistic portraits
- 1:12 scaled, accurate armored Batsuit (over standard fabric Batsuit) with metal chest plate as seen in the film
- Real fabric cape
- Light-up helmet eyes (batteries included)
- Super articulated body with over 44 points of articulation
- Fists (L&R)
- Grenade launcher holding hands (L&R)
- Grappling gun holding hand (R)
