In the words of my father in his tone-deaf voice, "da da dun dun ta dun, dun da dun tun, dun dun ta dun." Cue the classic theme that evokes adventure once you hear it! That's right Junkies as if STAR WARS: EPISODE IX was not enough to be excited about in 2019, now AFJ has gotten the official word that Harrison Ford will return to his famous fedora for the fifth installment of the storied INDIANA JONES series! Not only does Han Solo himself have a big opening now (a BIG opening thanks to patricidal son Kylo Ren), Sir Steven Spielberg is back behind the lens to direct the star for the fifth and presumably *final* go round in the landmark adventure series. By the time the fifth installment is released in theaters July 19, 2019, Ford will be 77-years old and his director not far behind at almost 73. Will these old-timers show all these CGI-movies what its like to make an old school action movie? After this announcement, I don't want to hear from anyone that says they are, "too old," to try something new!!
After the tepid, lukewarm response to 2008's collaborative effort by Ford & Spielberg that saw the legends re-team for Indiana Jones & the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, the one-two punch of these two icons are clearly looking to go out with a big bang or at the very least, one loud crack of the whip. No word yet on any co-stars yet but veterans of the franchise, Kathleen Kennedy (Current head of LucasFilm @Disney) & Frank Marshall will produce the film.
Chairman of The Walt Disney Studios, Alan Horn, says, "Indiana Jones is one of the greatest heroes in cinematic history, and we can't wait to bring him back to the screen in 2019. It's rare to have such a perfect combination of director, producers, actor and role, and we couldn't be more excited to embark on this adventure with Harrison and Steven." If EPISODE VII: THE FORCE AWAKENS proved anything to me as a fan and reviewer, its that Ford still has the chops to take on the roles that made him an icon so this news doesn't come as that much of a shock. However, MARVEL has to have some trepidation as their feature INHUMANS is slated to be released just a week earlier. But in reality, by 2019, I am just assuming *EVERYTHING* will be DISNEY owned so its all just gravy to the Mouse House. Prepare yourselves Junkies, STAR WARS & INDIANA JONES in the same year means double the amount of toys!
